How to Measure Tilt & Turn Windows for Shades

The most useful measurements for tilt-and-turn shades are not just width and height. We also need to understand usable depth, frame width, handle projection, and how the sash moves in relation to the opening.

If you are sending us measurements for a remote project, a few good photos and a small set of targeted dimensions will usually tell us far more than a generic rough opening size.

Measure the visible glass and frame opening

Capture width and height in at least three places if the opening is not perfectly uniform.

Measure usable mounting depth

Do not stop at the full recess. Note glazing beads, trim returns, or anything else that reduces the space where hardware can actually sit.

Measure handle projection

The handle depth often determines whether a shade can sit cleanly inside the opening or needs a different strategy.

Send photos straight on and from the side

A front view, a side-angle view, and a close-up of the handle area usually make the fit condition much clearer.

The Sustainable Shades Difference

Uncommon windows call for uncommon precision.

Homeowners, architects, and designers come to us with beautiful windows that have very little mounting depth, narrow frames, inward movement, or hardware exactly where an ordinary bracket would go. We resolve the fit quietly—with premium European systems, exacting measurement, and a finish that belongs in the room.

Specialist Focus

Tilt & Turn

Built around European windows, narrow frames, shallow mounts, and other hard-to-fit conditions.
